Scrabblegrams date back to 1975 when Phoebe Winch of Sherborne invented "a new game to compose something sensible using all the tiles supplied with Scrabble and using no other letters." Her original attempt was published in the Times Diary section and sparked what would become a beloved form of constrained writing. The modern revival began in 1997 when David Cohen won a GAMES Magazine competition with his famous limerick about a pickpocket, and the art form has continued to evolve with hundreds of creative examples since.
